MGMT 260: Principles of Management

This course is designed to give you a broad overview of the subject of management and provide you with information about yourself and others that will help you not only become a better manager, but also a better team member. The objective of the course is to expose you to the theories and principles important for successfully managing organizations and people. The following topics will be covered: What an exceptional manager does and how to do it, the theory of management and ethical responsibilities in a changing work environment. Also included are how managers manage across borders, planning, strategic management, individual and group decision-making. In addition, students will learn about organizational culture, structure, human resource management, organizational change, and innovation. The component of leadership within this course will elaborate on how to manage individual differences and behavior, motivate employees, and increase cooperation. We will also look at how to handle power, influence, and leadership. Finally, the leadership section will discuss how to master the exchange of information.The syllabus is found here.
